Costco Creativity

It's a good thing John & I asked St. Nick to bring Lola a big girl chair. When we got home from Costco, she had fun making do with the box we carried our groceries in! We can't wait for him to deliver it this weekend!!!

So much to be thankful for...

HAPPY THANKSGIVING everyone! We hope you all had a wonderful day with the people in your life whom you are most thankful for. This was a very special Thanksgiving--the first I've spent with both my mom AND dad for the first time in 25 years. It was nice to stay in one place for a change! I'm so grateful our blended family works, and everyone can be together, happy. You can't buy that.

Ronnie, Silvia and Mom worked hard to put on an AMAZING feast today. Everyone pitched in by bringing a dish to share, but these three take all the credit for serving up a delicious bird--and, a roasted leg of lamb. It was oh-so-yummy.

You would think serving Thanksgiving dinner to 20 in a 1-bedroom condo would be cramped, but it was anything but. Here's a bunch of pics from our day. You'd think I was snapping all day long, but I really wasn't. Still, I ended up capturing some great memories of the day.

Mommy holding what she is MOST thankful for!
Grandpa being a jokester.
The host & hostess.
Uncle Timmy helping Lola the Turkey fly.
A memorable moment 25 years in the making. FAMILY.
She's happiest with cell in hand.
Britt & John
Kind of random--my brother just re-designed his closet to make it more decorative and I love how it turned out. His condo has a great vibe to it and every inch reflects his personality. He added a few vintage touches--an old Zenith radio and a Brownie Hawkeye camera--that were recently given to him by Papa Zic.

Lola "rocked" her "My Godfather Rocks" shirt today from The T-Shirt Deli.

Having fun with Auntie Mary in from Nashville.
Silvia & Brittany showing off their homemade apple pie.
Lola & Grammy
The bird.

Raising a glass in humble Thanksgiving.
This picture sums it all up. Hosting such a feast is exhausting! He was up at 5:30 am putting that girl into the oven.
Reading "Brown Bear, Brown Bear"--next, it will be the collective works of Frank Lloyd Wright.
You know you're in a musician's house when you see concert posters. ManBirdBelly is my brother's band and a friend of his did this poster. The same friend just did a poster for The Swell Season's fall tour! Kind of fun :)
Mmmmm....Homemade whipped cream. Bliss.

The soon-to-be Mr. & Mrs. Herman

Huge congratulations to our cousin Leah and her new FIANCE Phil. After dating for a little over 3 years, Phil popped the question on Saturday night with a seriously stunning ring. We love Phil and are so excited for him to be an official member of the Kurek family. I just don't know if I can wait until Summer 2011 to celebrate. No doubt it will be the best dance floor any wedding has ever seen!

God Bless you two and this new, exciting chapter of your life! WE LOVE YOU!

Never too young to text!

Kristin came over a few weeks ago and Lola got a hold of her cell phone. So of course she thought she was hot stuff. She was so excited to be pressing all the fancy buttons, so Kristin graciously let her have her fun. But then the phone made a sound that confirmed she had actually sent a text! Oopps!

She's obviously just received some exciting information :)

Business Week just announced this year's pick for the best place to raise a family. The winner? TINLEY PARK! Such news can only help our property value in this horrific real estate market! I love that Tinley is getting recognized on the national scale. It has always been a great community for families and we feel fortunate to be raising Lola in such a nice town.

The Colour and The Shape

Lola loves to read lately. She simply can't get enough of her books. We read alot at night in the living room. She'll bring book after book after book to us, signing "more" or "please" all the while.

With each turning page, she is picking up new words and identifying new objects. When we ask her to point to an object, and she continually points to the object we ask, we are in awe. We love our little 15-month-old "person", as we call her--because that's what she is! A little person!

Here are two of her favorite pages, from two of her favorite books. You ask, she'll point to the correct picture. I love that she's starting to identify shapes and colors after reviewing them with her for months. It's amazing when everything starts to click!

15 months

We went for Lola's 15 month check-up this morning. Her pediatrician, Dr. Gegia, is one of the most elegant, well-dressed women I've ever met. So I always dress Lola pretty for her check-ups because Dr. Gegia will always comment on her ensemble and shoes. Oh, the joys of being a little girl.

Our little girl is growing--up to 22 lbs. 3 oz. and 30 3/4''. I didn't ask what percentile that was but I'm assuming she's still around the 50th where she's always been. She's working on her 1 year molars, which probably explains why she's been getting up at times in the middle of the night. Her gums are swollen! Temperament-wise, though, she's still mostly angel (with a little toddler tantrum here and there for good measure!)

Her vocabulary continues to grow. Her words include: Mama, Dada, Papa, Shoes, Nose, Ball, Pup-pup, Hi, Bye, All-done, Choo-choo and Mary. "Mary" has to be the sweetest new addition. She loves pointing at my necklace when I hold her and for months I've been saying "Mary" when she points to the Miraculous Medal I wear around my neck. I was rocking her in her room the other day and she pointed to it and 3 times said "Mary".

Her favorite thing to do at the moment is to sit and read books. Sometimes for an hour straight. She enjoys looking at the pictures and pointing. I'm trying to teach her some organization--we have a basket for library books and a basket for our books--but I'm not quite sure she's comprehended that yet! She helped me organize them all last night, and as soon as we were done, took every book out of their respective baskets! You just have to laugh at those moments, because at this point, that's what it's all about.
